Lavender

Why do I like lavender?
Raspberry.
Effeminate.
Clear as a cloud
reflected from a tear.
A color set aside
from the edges of a red or blue.
What makes a lavender?
Delicate,
with pretty little fingers.
Rare in nature.
Seldom worn except by girls.
A compliment to innocence
or women with white hair
a touch of lavender in their curls.

Lavender has a sweetness
you can taste,
a softness you can feel,
a shyness not meant for houses
but for the luster of a pearl.
It is the coolest part of flame,
the secret of a kiss
when lips are parted.
Lavender could be the color
of love’s flag,
tender, beautiful and spoken quietly.
