What Use Are Curtains?

What are curtains protecting?
Let the graves be uncovered.
Cast aside the drapes
that hide the heart.
How can it rejoice in darkness
if its eyes are covered?
Let curtains protect our dreams,
give privacy to sorrow,
provide entrances for thresholds.
Create sanctum from struggle,
a tete-a-tete for love,
an arena from hungry tigers,
a cover to continents and spaces.
Let curtains announce openings,
unfoldings,
plays,
then be drawn to the side,
where life lurks
to come on stage.
