Training Wheels

A note to myself
in a book of poems
dated July 29, 2006.
The serendipity of chance.
The anniversary of an epiphany.
It read,
Michael rode bike
without training wheels.
Does precocity have an angel?
Am I being reminded
what children do at 5 or 6?

Michael performed an odyssey at
three and a half.
Neighbors looked on amazed,
save one, who understood class
as opposed to norm.
Oh, that’s just being Michael!
She exclaimed.
Michael is an incomparable.
Yes, Michael is just being Michael.
Did you ever see an elephant fly?
