\nHotels, temples, houses,
\nemerald pools
\nwith fountains.
\nByzantine, Italianate, Spanish,
\narchitectural collage.
\nAn avery of terraces.
\nI perch stories high
\nwatching feathers
\ncollapse to nothing on the shore.
\nHear the constant cadence
\nof the sea.<\/p>\n
And I will die here,
\nlooking for the sails
\nthat abandoned me.
\nTheir slow methodical voyage
\nof months under the ocean\u2019s sky
\nlooking for Cathay
\nwith its mysterious treasure
\nof silks and spices.
\nSongs being sung about Iberia,
\nhunger, defeat.<\/p>\n
I keep looking for my humanity,
\ndwarfed in the future,
\nthe planetary gardens of a new world.
\nAnd gaze at the albatrosses,
\nterns,
\ngulls with their broad graceful wings,
\ngliding with the wind
\nand look for the ancient ships
\nthat sail in me and my people.
\nOur stranded tribe
\non the other side of their home\u2019s horizon.
\nAnd with a catch in my heart
