{"id":1224,"date":"2011-03-08T04:53:35","date_gmt":"2011-03-08T03:53:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=1224"},"modified":"2011-03-08T04:53:35","modified_gmt":"2011-03-08T03:53:35","slug":"grandma-disappearing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=1224","title":{"rendered":"Grandma Disappearing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was surprised<br \/>\nwhen Grandma lost her senses.<br \/>\nIt was not like sleeping,<br \/>\nor forgetting a name.<br \/>\nShe was bewildered,<br \/>\nin a wilderness.<br \/>\nHer voice pitched high<br \/>\nlike a child.<br \/>\nPeople seemed not to notice.<br \/>\nThey agreed to nothing at all,<br \/>\nrefusing to acknowledge her confusion,<br \/>\nand then,<br \/>\nI  too shared her terror.<\/p>\n<p>She could not trust them anymore.<br \/>\nThey implied<br \/>\nthe nightmare did not exist,<br \/>\nand I said,<br \/>\ninside my silence,<br \/>\nGrandma, I am afraid.<br \/>\nGrandma,<br \/>\nyou are going crazy.<br \/>\nGrandma,<br \/>\nI love you,<br \/>\nand I am dying,<br \/>\nseeing you die.<\/p>\n<p>And thank God she died.<br \/>\nShe went senseless and quivering,<br \/>\nlike a little bird growing numb.<br \/>\nThe cold entering its feathers<br \/>\nand silver oblivion<br \/>\nobscuring the brightness<br \/>\nof its pupils.<br \/>\nI decided then not to die,<br \/>\nnot to go crazy,<br \/>\nor enter a door<br \/>\nwhen the end appeared,<br \/>\nbut simply sleep without violence,<br \/>\nrefusing to wake,<br \/>\nand turn on the darkness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was surprised when Grandma lost her senses.
