If I were a weightless leaf,
\nblown away,
\nhow much of the world
\nwould I see?
\nCaught in a bush
\nwould I hear a woman weep,
\nor a man curse his fate
\npassing in the street?
\nWould I ascend a wall
\nand land by a child
\nsleeping in his bed,
\nhear his breathing
\nsoft and deep.
\nThen be found when he awoke,
\nlike a bird perished in its flight,
\nburied gently in the blankets
\nby his cheek?
\nI hope so.<\/p>\n
Or would I simply toss in the air
\nand be lost in the corner
\nof a fence?
\nFeel rain fall on myself,
\nthe ink inside
\nbecoming pale and clear,
\nthen return to the soil
\nand the hunger of a root.
\nPart of me kept as a stone,
\na relic that someday might be found,
\nand put on the diary of a desk.
