{"id":1252,"date":"2011-03-18T23:56:33","date_gmt":"2011-03-18T22:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=1252"},"modified":"2011-03-18T23:56:33","modified_gmt":"2011-03-18T22:56:33","slug":"lake-erie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=1252","title":{"rendered":"Lake Erie"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Please do not wait for me.<br \/>\nLet me,<br \/>\nwith my sand and pail,<br \/>\nerect a wall against the sea.<br \/>\nLet my legs,<br \/>\nwith their blue porcelain veins<br \/>\nstretch out on the sand.<br \/>\nBuild up dikes<br \/>\nlike the trailing of snakes<br \/>\nstretching in the sun,<br \/>\nand the sun in turn,<br \/>\nbleaching my hair<br \/>\ninto the petals of a flower.<\/p>\n<p>I am home,<br \/>\nby the cat lake of my people,<br \/>\nby the gray swells of their old dreams.<br \/>\nI woke up here.<br \/>\nI was born in the foam.<br \/>\nEvery atom of my soul<br \/>\ncontains a grain of its sand,<br \/>\nthe open ache of my heart,<br \/>\nthe lost swarm of its flies,<br \/>\nthe swallowtail resolve of old warriors,<br \/>\nlost fishermen,<br \/>\nyoung mothers.<br \/>\nThey join me on this beach,<br \/>\nthey live in its light,<br \/>\nand walk as shadows down the shore.<\/p>\n<p>This is my home.<br \/>\nLet me stay awhile.<br \/>\nGo on,<br \/>\nand tell the world<br \/>\nI will catch up.<br \/>\nAnd if I don\u2019t,<br \/>\nyou\u2019ll see a white gull above the water<br \/>\nswooping and arching in the breeze,<br \/>\nand it will be me.<br \/>\nI couldn\u2019t leave.<br \/>\nI couldn\u2019t die.<br \/>\nI simply became<br \/>\nthe child of my home again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please do not wait for me.
