{"id":1357,"date":"2011-04-24T15:18:07","date_gmt":"2011-04-24T14:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=1357"},"modified":"2011-04-24T15:18:07","modified_gmt":"2011-04-24T14:18:07","slug":"good-friday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=1357","title":{"rendered":"Good Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It always rains on Good Friday.<br \/>\nA Buddhist would not notice.<br \/>\nIslam keeps to itself,<br \/>\nbut the trees are carved in ivory.<br \/>\nThe winter always lingers here.<br \/>\nIn the tropics the air is light as lemon.<br \/>\nHere the grief of time is naked.<br \/>\nThe churches are filled with shadows<br \/>\nthat reach out and touch the eyes<br \/>\nof the faithful.<br \/>\nWhy is it called good to die?<br \/>\nWhy do people put their hands together<br \/>\nlike clams?<br \/>\nLike wings that shelter a prayer?<\/p>\n<p>A little voice inside the palms<br \/>\nwhispers, it is sad to die.<br \/>\nIt is sad to leave a world<br \/>\nthat breathes so beautifully.<br \/>\nThe air is so fresh,<br \/>\nmoving over the city<br \/>\nwith its yellow forsythia.<br \/>\nIt is never stormy on this day,<br \/>\nonly surreally still,<br \/>\nas if a riddle is being shared<br \/>\nwith nothing in particular,<br \/>\nbut the child who asks over and over,<br \/>\nwhy is it called good?<br \/>\nAnd I would tell it,<br \/>\nthat a prophet is telling a story,<br \/>\nthat it is good<br \/>\nto be gentle and cry,<br \/>\nbut the odyssey of life is laughter,<br \/>\nnothing more.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It always rains on Good Friday.
