We are becoming one

\nFifty years since our graduation.
\nHow fair we were,
\nnot yet twenty!
\nBursting like children
\nfrom a door.
\nNow wreckage,
\ngray hair,
\nfat tummies.
\nLines traveling across
\nthe decades of our faces.<\/p>\n
The coups,
\nthe glory,
\nchildren,
\ncelebrations,
\nthe faraway countries we explored.
\nAnd we come back like birds,
\nbutterflies,
\nancestral elephants,
\nwith long memories,
\nbroken hearts.
\nMedals,
\nhelping each other,
\ntrying to see into closets,
\nsoul mates across a table,
\nthe gentling of war.
\nStories and words,
\ntouching each other\u2019s hands,
\nlooking past our destinies.<\/p>\n
Life overtook us.
\nWhere did we put
\nour poems and crayons?
\nWould it not be a wonder
\nfor a moment,
\nto be young again,
\nand see our pretty faces,
\nhope shining in our eyes,
\nand be a reunion
\nof angels ascending,
\nthe world ours
