Yesterday
\nI wrote two very bad poems,
\nI apologize.
\nLast week I said something
\nwhich offended somebody.
\nI\u2019m sure they remember
\nbut I\u2019ve forgotten what it was.
\nNot long ago I bought shirts
\nwith sleeves too long,
\nand the collar too tight,
\nI was distracted.
\nWith cooking it\u2019s a shambles;
\nI follow recipes
\nand get the ingredients wrong.
\nWas it a cup of sugar or salt?
\nPerhaps a pinch of sugar will do.
\nIn any case I\u2019m praised
\nfor original flavors,
\nthough no one eats my food.<\/p>\n
I\u2019m shy at the wrong times
\nand a bull in a china shop
\nwhen a soft word is needed.
\nIt makes me an uninvited guest,
\nand my friends put up with me,
\nsaying no doubt, I\u2019m odd.
\nYou never know what\u2019s next.
\nYes, I laugh at funerals
\nand accuse my allergies,
\nand cry at bad jokes
\nwhich are hurtful.
\nThe dirty ones I despise
\nso people think I don\u2019t like sex,
\nand so it goes.<\/p>\n
Out of step,
\nout of tune,
\nwhich brings me back to my bad poems.
\nWhen I decide to write, I can\u2019t.
\nWhen I can\u2019t,
\nwell sometimes I get it right.
\nThe point is
\nthe stuff in the waste basket
\nis probably my best.
\nNot to change the subject,
\nhave I mentioned how I mix socks
