\nto the shore and grass.
\nTheir eyes like shiny agates

I came to this place in my youth

\nThere was no laughter running there,
\nsmall steps balancing each other.
\nBut the land waited.

I was the first of the eternal children,

\nfrom the black roses of the shadows.
\nOpened their fingers
\nto hold yellow cactus flowers.<\/p>\n

\nas I watch the little ones before me
\nthrowing footballs,
\nriding bikes,
\nplaying chase with playful monsters
\nat their heels.<\/p>\n
Papa shouts encouragement,
\npraise,
\nacts as Safe in their game of tag,
\nand waits for his soul to shed

\nto have my innocence and legs
