Daybreak on the world.
\nTsunami into every crevice.
\nSpears into the sonnet
\nof night.
\nMy eyelids opened
\nto the steel gears
\nof trains,
\nrolling by my window.
\nNo boy had a window
\nlike my own,
\na jewel of poverty.
\nDawn, and the rainbow
\nof coal dust on the glass.
\nI reached for sleep
\nunder my pillow.
\nDared day to catch me.
\nI peeped at shadows
\njumping on the wall.
\nThen my fingers
\nmaking birds,
\nblack angels.<\/p>\n
Do shadows love?
\nTouch us invisibles?
\nDo they believe in their makers?
\nDo they shadow box
\nwith each other?
\nBecome things they\u2019re not?
\nDo shadows live in the dark?
\nEver run away?
\nBecome black rainbows?
\nAre they existential
\nlike me?
\nEpiphany borrowing
\nmy heart and soul.
\nWalking on a road
\non which I am nothing
\nbut a ghost,
