Magic is the thread between us
\nand moths released in the night.
\nThe jade of eight luna moths
\nto the dust-filled ceiling of the sky.
\nFluttering like leaves in the windward
\nlee of darkness.
\nChildren shared between us and their mother,
\ncaught in a bog of rain and storm.
\nDepositing her precious eggs of life
\non our window before dying.<\/p>\n
We cherished them for two months,
\nsheltering and feeding them,
\neach step, on their unlikely steps
\nof survival, egg, caterpillar emerald,
\nuntil they slept in silk beds of leaf
\nand web.
\nAnd a family waited for them to wake,
\nand come to the final league
\nof their voyages.
\nNow they are leaving,
\ntheir life story in us.
\nAnd Mary will exclaim again and again
