Yesterday
\nI ground up leaves
\nand gave away my poem.
\nThe leaves will be
\nreturned to the earth.
\nThe poem flew away like a dove.
\nIn the weeks ahead,
\nwhen November settles
\nlike gray fog,
\nI will remember the poem,
\nsee the leaves
\nquilted with snow,
\nand the dove
\nwill have forgotten
\nwhat it left behind.<\/p>\n
I stare into the naked branches
\nof the trees.
\nWill count the stars
\nof a winter evening.
\nSee meteors missed
\nin the verdancy of summer.
\nI am preparing
\nfor a world
\ngoing to sleep,
\nsongs,
\nleft by wings
\nvanished in the air,
\nand midnight snowfalls
