{"id":2034,"date":"2016-11-02T01:38:46","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T00:38:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=2034"},"modified":"2016-10-18T02:09:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T01:09:29","slug":"being-a-dinosaur","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=2034","title":{"rendered":"Being a Dinosaur"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Where can I go?<br \/>\nWho will have me?<br \/>\nThe last dinosaur.<br \/>\nI am the DNA of a forbidden species.<br \/>\nWe died long ago.<br \/>\nWhen the moon was shattered<br \/>\nby a transparent star.<br \/>\nWhen we drowned in a sea<br \/>\nof red fire.<br \/>\nWhen our genes became smoke,<br \/>\nand gray ash and femurs.<br \/>\nBut some of us lived,<br \/>\nunder little arches<br \/>\nthat remained uncrushed.<br \/>\nHowling in the night.<br \/>\nWhispering to the stone,<br \/>\nwhere is the light that made us roar,<br \/>\nfilled us with strength?<\/p>\n<p>I look for my ancestors<br \/>\nin the stone by my door,<br \/>\namong scallops, sea urchins, fans,<br \/>\nto see a toe print,<br \/>\na hieroglyphic,<br \/>\na name that belongs to me.<br \/>\nAnd sometimes,<br \/>\nwhen the sun is setting<br \/>\nin the shadows of the grain,<br \/>\nthe stone tells me<br \/>\nunder the door light,<br \/>\nnear the lintel of the door,<br \/>\nnot describable in words,<br \/>\nbut written nevertheless,<br \/>\nthat I am a beloved tyrannosaurus<br \/>\nsomething.<br \/>\nWho roars in the silence of his heart,<br \/>\none of the last race of giants,<br \/>\nrulers of millennia,<br \/>\nlooking up and down the street,<br \/>\nfor the members of his race<br \/>\nstill left.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Where can I go?
