Savannah,
\nbeside yourself?
\nHow God puts up with us.
\nHow we must try the patience
\nof the Almighty.
\nBut he lets us go on
\nuntil everything inside settles down.
\nI sometimes think,
\nthere\u2019s voodoo in our recipes.
\nWe fill libraries with our books
\non cooking.
\nMaybe they come from the marshes
\nwhen they fill with fog,
\nand alligators take a shine to people.
\nAlthough I never knew anyone
\nthat ended up that way.
\nThe people I know have more sense
\nthan being in a swamp at night.<\/p>\n
But in any case our food shows imagination,
\nand sometimes I think,
\nthere\u2019s nothing in the sea
\nwe wouldn\u2019t eat or try to.
\nHow we\u2019ve never wiped out
\nthe crabs and oysters is a mystery,
\nand the knife twirling
\nthat goes on in our Asian restaurants,
\nwell I believe have taken off
\nan ear or two.
\nAnyway, that\u2019s a good story in itself.
\nBut we are a seaport,
\nand I wouldn\u2019t be surprised
\nwhat people find here.
\nI never am, although food
\nis as fickle as romance.
\nYou fall in love with something,
\nthen one day you forget you ever eat it.
\nYou didn\u2019t fall out of love,
\nyou just forgot,
\nand a certain blindness sets in
\nwhen reviewing a menu.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s there,
\nand it\u2019s not there,
\nwhatever it was.
\nYou see her,
\nand don\u2019t see her,
\nif you know what I mean.
\nUnless
\nyou write a poem or song,
\nand then you cry a little,
\nand go about your business.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s so much to try in the world,
\nand the south has a big breast.
\nShe never turned a sailor away,
\nor a man who knew himself,.
