Through the tunnel of the glacier
\nI see the ancestral record
\ndripping to the floor.
\nWet stone, papyrus of snow.
\nDiary of ice and ages,
\nall gone in the malevolent summer.
\nThe talons of heat
\ncoming from our fires.
\nThe breath of ruined forests.
\nBut the cold is still here.
\nA vault of white crystal,
\nthe story still pre-versed.
\nWe have only read a few of its poems.
\nThe minutes of cold
\nthat separated equator from
\nthe barren face of the poles.
\nBut everywhere the story
\nis disappearing.
\nThe lullabies and conquests.
\nThe vast white wilderness
\nthat came and went.
\nWe are burning up the world,
