I stood,
\ndark against the sky\u2019s

\nJack was digging in the sand

\nEpiphany was about to happen,

Soaring above the waves
\ndolphins!
\nJack shouted, whale!
\nI shouted, dolphins!

\nfollowed by two,
\nthen more.
\nElements of the ocean.<\/p>\n
Gifted children of the depths.
\nWe watched in awe.
\nThe first dolphins we had seen
\nin the chasm of the wild.
\nTheir brains and hearts
\nbigger than our own.
\nLike gods outside altars.
\nWe watched as they merged
\ninto the haze of shoreline.
\nIn the distance
\nI felt their freedom,
