I am weary of the war
\nthat goes on somewhere,
\neverywhere,
\noutside and in.
\nIs peace so difficult?
\nWhy are the innocent to blame?
\nWhy do our notions excite to blood?
\nI don\u2019t see it in children.
\nDid I cross a river
\nthat changed me?
\nDid war creep into my soul
\nand the flower died?
\nThe bird inside,
\nfolded its sorrow
\nand refused to fly?
\nDid that happen?
\nDid it happen to you?
\nDid we change,
\nor are we not to blame?<\/p>\n
Are so many of us
\nthe shadows lining the road?
\nThe refugees of peace,
\nthe people who still feel rain
\non their faces.
\nWho turn the other cheek.
\nWho sing the songs of their mothers,
\nwho never hated,
\nnever believed enough
\nto hurt or maim.
\nWho gave away their bread and shoes,
\nsharing each others need.<\/p>\n
If there are so many of us,
\nif we are the peacekeepers,
\nwhy is there war?
\nWhy do we suffer?
\nWhy are children not loved like angels?
\nWhen the boat leaves
\nI will wonder.
\nWhen I say good-bye,
\nit will be with a prayer,
\nthat war comes with me
