{"id":2237,"date":"2012-03-11T03:58:16","date_gmt":"2012-03-11T02:58:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=2237"},"modified":"2012-03-11T03:58:16","modified_gmt":"2012-03-11T02:58:16","slug":"poetry-children","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=2237","title":{"rendered":"Poetry Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I can not bear<br \/>\nto let my ugly little children<br \/>\nbe picked on by bullies.<br \/>\nMy struggling little poems<br \/>\nhobbling about,<br \/>\nlooking into holes<br \/>\nand poking at the sky.<br \/>\nGathering moss and bark<br \/>\nand waving branches in the air.<br \/>\nRunning over grass<br \/>\nwith feet spreading wings,<br \/>\nand waving arms<br \/>\nthat embrace the joy of light.<\/p>\n<p>They speak only to the stones<br \/>\nand shadows,<br \/>\nsing to dandelions,<br \/>\nand say nothing to people,<br \/>\nwho parse their sentences<br \/>\nand criticize their syllables.<br \/>\nThey have a sense<br \/>\nbelonging to coasts and bridges,<br \/>\nseeing from a distance,<br \/>\nfloating above the ground,<br \/>\nburied in soil of darkness.<br \/>\nBut gentle beyond words,<br \/>\nhiding, lest they be taunted<br \/>\nand made fun of,<br \/>\nand thrown away like imperfect valentines.<\/p>\n<p>They do the best they can<br \/>\nbeing themselves,<br \/>\nsaying what they say,<br \/>\nand I guard them with my life.<br \/>\nProtect them from the critics,<br \/>\nwho chased all the poems<br \/>\ninside themselves away,<br \/>\nand let them drown.<br \/>\nFor whom,<br \/>\nwe throw garlands on the waves,<br \/>\nand all my little poems<br \/>\nwave good-bye to them, weeping.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I can not bear to let my ugly little children be picked on by bullies.
