Two astronomers factored everything in
\nand colored our universe beige.
\nLike taking all the paint
\nand mixing it up.
\nA featureless color,
\nundramatic,
\nwithout poise,
\nnot the cosmos we see
\nreflected in the night.
\nI thought, is life like this?
\nIs my life beige,
\nfactoring everything in?
\nAll the moments and pauses,
\nworking and traveling?
\nDoes it deserve this appraisal?
\nDoes the universe have such a face?
\nAnd I concluded,
\nnothing is beige!<\/p>\n
Everything shines with dysfunctional glory,
\na blaze of presence,
\ncold and heat,
\nvivid reds and ochers,
\ncolor streaming through itself,
\nlove feeling hate,
\nthe confusion of discovery.
\nI\u2019m not composite brown,
\nbut a rainbow spinner!
\nA windsock in love with wind
\nand the rising sun.
\nPerhaps I\u2019m topaz blue,
\nbut that\u2019s another dream.<\/p>\n
My life isn\u2019t beige.
\nThe world with its explosions
\ndoesn\u2019t look brown.
\nThe air I breathe
\nhas never been stale.
\nI hold up the heavens
\nwith my hands,
\nand never find the same moment again.
\nNothing is beige.
\nThe roll of creation
\nis in magnificent color,
\nlike the gift from my son
