{"id":2273,"date":"2014-12-14T01:05:55","date_gmt":"2014-12-14T00:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=2273"},"modified":"2014-12-03T03:15:42","modified_gmt":"2014-12-03T02:15:42","slug":"the-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=2273","title":{"rendered":"The Pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The meridian of July<br \/>\ngleams like a Sistine Chapel,<br \/>\nblue as the eyes of Icelandic girls,<br \/>\nthe polished white of cloudy Pietas.<br \/>\nThe afternoon humming with silence.<br \/>\nJackie splashing in his plastic pool,<br \/>\nthe hose lifted in his hand,<br \/>\nwater of blue silver,<br \/>\nflashes.<br \/>\nStreaks of lightning,<br \/>\nhis mouth tasting<br \/>\nthe flow of forget-me-nots and stars.<\/p>\n<p>A boy with his boats and buckets,<br \/>\nred chair in the center,<br \/>\na part of the tide,<br \/>\nthe motion of time.<br \/>\nHis Mema and Papa watching,<br \/>\nhis fingers darting<br \/>\nlike little fish in the water.<br \/>\nJackie sees only the flow<br \/>\nof invisible waves,<br \/>\nplastic rings of orange and yellow,<br \/>\nbobbing like lilies.<br \/>\nA bird flailing his arms<br \/>\nas if to fly,<br \/>\nas if the world could lift him<br \/>\ninto the transparent air,<br \/>\nweightless and dripping.<\/p>\n<p>Mema reminds him,<br \/>\nin a moment he must go in,<br \/>\nleave behind his boats and buckets.<br \/>\nAnd shyly he smiles,<br \/>\nknows each smile nets him a reprieve.<br \/>\n\u201cOne last more, Mema,<br \/>\none last more,\u201d he says.<br \/>\nAnd she nods,<br \/>\nas long as he likes,<br \/>\nas long as the earth can live.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The meridian of July gleams like a Sistine Chapel, blue as the eyes of Icelandic girls, the polished white of cloudy Pietas.
