\nMirrors and combs.
\nPowders for lightening the skin,
\ndarkening the skin.
\nPads of ink for tracing the eyes
\nwith dainty brushes.<\/p>\n
A cornucopia of notes and paper,
\nlists, reminders, but no hurried
\nlines of poetry, for which there is no time.
\nA small technological wonder
\nfor pressing keys that take photographs,
\nsends calls, receives messages,
\nprovides the weather.
\nAnd pills for good humor,
\nlow blood pressure, arthritis,
\npep ups, tranquilizers, aphrodisiacs,
\nhallucinogens and breath sweeteners.
\nBut most touching,
\nmost valuable,
\npictures of lovers, children, friends,
\nand the owner of the purse
\nin winsome poses.<\/p>\n
All that is the beginning
\nof an archaeological treasure,
\nlost over a canyon,
\nfalling into a rock slide
\nand immediately covered
\nfrom wind and weather,
\nto be found a million eons from now.
\nA Rosetta stone of wife, girlfriend,
\nmother,
\nnot unlike the discoverer,
\nfussing through her purse
