{"id":2603,"date":"2017-02-14T02:15:41","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T01:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=2603"},"modified":"2017-04-30T20:13:07","modified_gmt":"2017-04-30T19:13:07","slug":"encounters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=2603","title":{"rendered":"Encounters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wondered whose intention it was<br \/>\nto put this book of blank pages<br \/>\nin this drawer, and never leave<br \/>\na sentence in it.<br \/>\nWas it intended to be a ledger,<br \/>\na journal, a diary?<br \/>\nMy imaginal soul,<br \/>\nfrustrated,<br \/>\nbegan to read the blank pages.<br \/>\nThe book was like a life never used.<br \/>\nNever looking in a mirror.<br \/>\nWhite pages that had yellowed,<br \/>\nbecome fragile,<br \/>\neyelids that never opened.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the story<br \/>\nI remembered dreams,<br \/>\nbills, children.<br \/>\nTaken back, I began to read<br \/>\nthe book that was never written.<br \/>\nThe dog, buried by a boy<br \/>\nin the garden.<br \/>\nA doll lost under the rafters<br \/>\nof an attic.<br \/>\nA girl shouting for days<br \/>\nto the doll.<br \/>\nA woman contemplating divorce.<br \/>\nA man working in an empty job<br \/>\nand talking to himself.<br \/>\nPoems gasping for a first word,<br \/>\nthen disappearing.<\/p>\n<p>I encountered a family of<br \/>\nhuge emotions.<br \/>\nVacations and lost coins<br \/>\nin a wishing well.<br \/>\nI imagined a household<br \/>\nlooking at the light<br \/>\nat the bottom of its doors.<br \/>\nA ship drifting from its mooring.<br \/>\nA child that forgot to wake up.<br \/>\nA dream come true.<br \/>\nAnd I laughed, brooded, cried<br \/>\nand shuddered.<br \/>\nMy story and their story together.<br \/>\nAnd tired,<br \/>\nI closed the book of blank pages<br \/>\nwith my fingerprints and tears.<br \/>\nA story that told itself to me<br \/>\nwithout its writing,<br \/>\nor an author.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I wondered whose intention it was to put this book of blank pages in this drawer, and never leave a sentence in it.
