They are always there,
\nsunflowers following the sun.
\nI see them in the snow
\nwhen the sun passes overhead,
\nin mirrors of chiaroscuro
\nleft by rain,
\nin light flashing from
\nsomeone\u2019s eyes,
\non silk moving with the air.
\nSunflowers everywhere,
\nwherever light appears,
\nor even in the gloom,
\nwhere an artist puts them.<\/p>\n
And every year
\nI sow their seed,
\nand watch them
\nemerge from the dark ravines
\nof earth,
\ncoming back to us
\nand their mothering star,
\ngrowing taller than our heads,
\nhuge planetary flowers
