It was a stray thread dangling.
\nLike the strand of a spider\u2019s silk.
\nIt simply came out of nowhere.
\nI felt it grace my cheek,
\nlike the webs of autumn
\nthat catch in our hair.
\nThen a prescient thought
\nflashed in my mind.
\nThe thread belonged to a tapestry
\nwoven of invisible sky,
\nand things faster than the speed
\nof light,
\ndetached from the edge
\nof a spindle spinning.<\/p>\n
Impulsively I snatched it
\nand started to pull,
\nthen cried out at something
\nunraveling in my soul!
\nAs if time began to disappear,
\nowls stop flying,
\na poppy\u2019s face close inward,
\nand all the pictures and places
\nof the world
\nwere forgetting how to be themselves.<\/p>\n
And then I realized
\neverything is woven strand by strand
\nfrom time beginning,
\nand a single thread
\npulled carelessly from creation,
\nor the wings of a butterfly
\nheavily descending,
\ncould in the scheme of things
