We went to Fancyburg Park,
\nMary, Jackie, Michael and me,
\nto play with the kids.
\nThere weren\u2019t any,
\nbut three squirrels
\nran about,
\nsun washing the ground,
\nsky blue as a morning glory,
\nair the transparency of crystal.<\/p>\n
Michael dozed in the sun,
\nJackie chased MeMa down the slides.
\nTrees had not yet changed,
\nbut coolness hinted of the fall.
\nMichael opened his eyes,
\ndark light of a brilliant heart.
\nJackie said hi to a little girl
\nwho had arrived.
\nThe park was a chrysanthemum
\nof green.<\/p>\n
I heard children laughing.
\nMichael and I watched each other.
\nI lifted him up.
\nWill we remember this,
\ngrass,
\nMeMa\u2019s smile,
\nJackie chasing his new friend Rachel,
\nthe squirrels never stopping,
\nand time,
\na flying wind
