{"id":3179,"date":"2016-05-07T01:32:05","date_gmt":"2016-05-07T00:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=3179"},"modified":"2016-05-03T15:58:42","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T14:58:42","slug":"odds-and-ends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=3179","title":{"rendered":"Odds and Ends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am collecting scraps,<br \/>\npieces of lint from my heart,<br \/>\nwords that faltered<br \/>\nor fell off the table.<br \/>\nLittle phrases that pleased me.<br \/>\nThey were simply blue,<br \/>\nor held up their hands,<br \/>\nor smelled like roses.<br \/>\nI am assembling a whole book<br \/>\nof them,<br \/>\nlike a patchwork quilt,<br \/>\nwords that begged for a place,<br \/>\none of a kind,<br \/>\na phrase someone used<br \/>\nand stuck like glue in memory.<\/p>\n<p>Kick booty, Mom!  said Melissa,<br \/>\nwhen Mary went to a piano lesson.<br \/>\nCase in point, someone said,<br \/>\nhow droll.<br \/>\nOr three words<br \/>\nthat started a poem.<br \/>\nThe sky fell!<br \/>\nBut what next?<br \/>\nWas there dust?<br \/>\nMuch debris?<br \/>\nDid the stars fly away?<\/p>\n<p>Or endless poems I started<br \/>\nand never finished.<br \/>\nWas love ever complete?<br \/>\nDid it ever have endings?<br \/>\nWas it late to a party?<br \/>\nLove at first sight?<br \/>\nScraps, pieces, quotations.<br \/>\nThough I hate maxims<br \/>\nand never kept them,<br \/>\nthrew them in the yard somewhere.<\/p>\n<p>Thistles grew up prickly and beautiful<br \/>\nand hard to touch.<br \/>\nI\u2019ll call this collection bouquets,<br \/>\nseashells, old bottles,<br \/>\nor songs that kept playing<br \/>\na half tune all their lives,<br \/>\nuntil I brought them together<br \/>\nlike a heap of children,<br \/>\npiling up on each other,<br \/>\nin a ball of laughter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am collecting scraps, pieces of lint from my heart, words that faltered or fell off the table.
