Is body building a ministry?
\nMen and women grooming
\nthe physiognomy of themselves?
\nThe quintessential molding of
\nmuscle and grace.
\nMen seeking the physique of David,
\nWomen, of Venus.
\nMy tongue wants to scold,
\nto ask them for humility.
\nTo jeer at Narcissus
\nwho was indescribably beautiful
\nand in love with his face.<\/p>\n
But I kept my peace.
\nBit my tongue.
\nLooked through the mirror of myself
\nand began to cheer, clap,
\nadmire the dedication and praise
\nthey show for the human form.
\nDo not saints polish their souls?
\nArtists perfect their skills?
\nWarriors put wreaths on the graves
\nof courageous warriors?
\nActors pretend, and become cynosures
\nof fantasy?<\/p>\n
So I keep my peace.
\nWatch body builders place their heroes
\nupon pedestals,
\nand say to myself, Yes! Yes!
\nBe beautiful.
\nBe perfect.
\nDo it the way you can.
\nEach in his own way.
\nDetermined,
\nwith a cause,
\nto be the best you can be,
\nand spared of the ridicule
