Truly work is never done.
\nThe washing of clothes,
\nthe cleansing of dishes,
\nthe repair of cracks,
\nbroken joints,
\nbuying bread,
\nlistening to the happy,
\nand comforting the broken.<\/p>\n
There is no final time
\nwhen things are done,
\nexcept being born,
\nand the last thoughts before leaving,
\nmeasuring its loneliness
\nby whispering love,
\ngiving instructions,
\nabsolving the fear
\nthat come with living.
\nAnd saying to the air
\nthat kept its place,
\nthank you friend,
\nfor your silence.<\/p>\n
Thank you for allowing me
\nmy migratory ways,
\nmy thoughts going off in lightning,
\nfalling into wells,
\nand letting me collect my stones.
\nThe heavy ones
\nfor topiary in my garden.
\nLittle statues of stones balancing,
\nstrong and fragile.
\nAnd pictures of their fossils,
\ngiving me a faith.<\/p>\n
If life goes on this long,
\nhow beautiful its prayers,
\nhow brave its striving,
\na message for the rain
\nrunning off their faces.
\nKeep faith with work,
\nand things to be done,
\nmaking life easier for others,
\ngoing to sleep with a weary
\nbut satisfied feeling.

\na blithe set of wings,
