Awards were being given.
\nDistinguished citizens.
\nContributors to their fellow men.
\nMovers and shakers were there,
\nand they moved and shook each other\u2019s hands
\nas well they should.
\nA talk was given lifting up their greatness,
\nand what would we have done for buildings
\nwithout them?<\/p>\n
And everyone cheered
\nsticking to their tasks without flinching.
\nLoaves of bread were baked in heaven.
\nDished clattered.
\nWine was toasted in testimonials,
\nand accolades vied with accolades
\nto names,
\namong the names that mattered.<\/p>\n
But as I left the hall
\nflushed from all the heat inside,
\nand looked at those who took no credit,
\nthose who saw the work was done,
\nwho never raised their hands
\nto be counted,
\nwho looked after children,
\nand tended sick,
\ngave support, and faithfully washed
\nour dishes,
\nI gave each of them salute,
\nand wished them well upon their journey.
\nReward enough for being what they were
