Someday

\nan austerity of stone,
\nand mothers walking
\nin the morning

The shy laughter of boys
\nthe beauty of girls,
\ntheir sons and daughters.
\nA parallel world of the heart,
\nwhere everything came
\nto place
\nwith clarity and joy.<\/p>\n
I saw their art work
\nfashioned with tender concern.
\nThe quicksilver of eyes
\nas children recited their poems,
\nas kindergarten drew
\nto a close.<\/p>\n
We looked on our children
\nwith awe,
\nHow fast this year had gone!
\nHow much had passed
\nand something else
\nplaced in our arms.<\/p>\n
The children circled their teacher
\nlike a fountain of flowers,
\na frame for her soul.
\nAn epiphany happened.<\/p>\n
How wide the summer is!
\nThe challenge of a year.
\nMothers hold the pieces
\nof their hearts together.
\nFathers applaud,
