{"id":3825,"date":"2013-09-30T01:00:57","date_gmt":"2013-09-30T00:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=3825"},"modified":"2013-09-28T17:04:56","modified_gmt":"2013-09-28T16:04:56","slug":"other-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=3825","title":{"rendered":"Other Lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How much do I wish to know<br \/>\nabout myself?<br \/>\nAbout the world?<br \/>\nI was once a king,<br \/>\nmany times a king,<br \/>\nand the world laughed sadly with me.<br \/>\nOffered the solitary hut of a hermit,<br \/>\nthe mantle of a priest,<br \/>\nthe spear of a hunter wandering mountains.<br \/>\nBut it was a secret this kingship thing,<br \/>\nthe flowered crown,<br \/>\nplumes and feathers,<br \/>\nteeth and bits of copper strung on string.<br \/>\nI was a king<br \/>\nbecause I wanted to be king,<br \/>\nnot because of the world,<br \/>\nbut for it,<br \/>\na calling,<br \/>\na thread of noble obligation.<\/p>\n<p>My soul was solitary,<br \/>\na bowl of emptiness,<br \/>\na shell left waterless on the shore.<br \/>\nSo I determined that to possess nothing,<br \/>\nhear solitude,<br \/>\nmove without harm,<br \/>\nand do no destruction,<br \/>\nI would sleep on the great cliff.<br \/>\nWear a ruler\u2019s ring,<br \/>\nand be king in some indefinite void<br \/>\nof time,<br \/>\nuntil I could be a child.<br \/>\nBe born with nothing,<br \/>\nand remember to hear other voices,<br \/>\nand leave the scepter frozen in stone,<br \/>\nan object of awe to a paleontologist,<br \/>\nwho discovers footprints from the sea,<br \/>\nand knows where they\u2019re going<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>How much do I wish to know about myself?
