{"id":3870,"date":"2013-10-12T16:10:30","date_gmt":"2013-10-12T15:10:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w7m.3ee.myftpupload.com\/?p=3870"},"modified":"2013-10-17T16:11:32","modified_gmt":"2013-10-17T15:11:32","slug":"dust-to-dust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theodorewaterfield.com\/?p=3870","title":{"rendered":"My Bay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I go there often,<br \/>\nbut I cannot write of it.<br \/>\nThe Bay with its gray face,<br \/>\nthe trolling swells of the waves,<br \/>\nthe islands like moored ships,<br \/>\nmy father, grizzled and gray<br \/>\nat the tiller of the Whistle Wing,<br \/>\nthe great white wings of the boat<br \/>\nfilling with dampness,<br \/>\nthe fog spilling from the sails.<br \/>\nIt is soul life, this place.<br \/>\nWhy I refuse to give it up,<br \/>\nwhy it exists,<br \/>\nan exotica,<br \/>\nthe real bread,<br \/>\nthe clear tea,<br \/>\nthe lemon sun.<\/p>\n<p>All of it belongs to me<br \/>\nlike an inward skeleton.<br \/>\nIt holds me together<br \/>\nlike the beams of a bridge.<br \/>\nI found openness in the bay,<br \/>\nthe rare elemental of truth,<br \/>\nalways being what it was.<br \/>\nIt was later in the city<br \/>\nthat I found depredation,<br \/>\nblankness, fragility.<br \/>\nPeople who never walked<br \/>\nwith the spirit of the water,<br \/>\nwho never tasted the tongues of ancestors,<br \/>\nthrew wreathes upon the waves,<br \/>\nfelt no tenderness in the arms of devotion.<br \/>\nThe reeds parting for the gulls,<br \/>\nthe lilies lying like pink and white baskets<br \/>\non the pools.<\/p>\n<p>One belongs to these doors<br \/>\nthat open on shadows,<br \/>\nthat release the whispers of angels,<br \/>\nthat pull a man into the heart<br \/>\nof the living savannas of midges,<br \/>\ndragonflies,<br \/>\nthe bonnets of herons and swans.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t know why truth is rare<br \/>\namong the people of the city.<br \/>\nI don\u2019t know why they need sirens.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know why they refuse<br \/>\nto leave those places<br \/>\nand return to selves<br \/>\nwhich were the gift of their childhoods.<br \/>\nI for one return to my place,<br \/>\nmy Bay,<br \/>\nthe islands,<br \/>\nthe ship of my father,<br \/>\nand wish for nothing but the sun,<br \/>\nto rise and light up these dark places<br \/>\nI have gone to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I go there often, but I cannot write of it.
