It rained all night.
\nI picked the last of the tulips.
\nThey were tangled in webs
\nof red and yellow.
\nA few stood tall,
\nas if they were never touched.
\nIt was a battlefield of fog and rain.
\nThe vase was pure transparency.
\nAllowing a few.
\nI left the rest to the morning glow.
\nI too have lain
\nwounded by storms.
\nThen someone brought me in,
\nuntil I was straight and tall,
\nand could return something of myself.
\nFor the tulips,
\nit is their great beauty,
\ncomforting me on the table.
\nFrom myself, for them,
\nI return words of gratitude
