Jackie is a hundred miles north

\nin the home of ancestors,
\namong cousins and grandparents,
\na brocade of hearts,
\ngold dragons.
\nI see him,
\nstay with him,
\nin some cavern of mystery
\nI find my tiger,
\nlittle empire,
\nhill where a small bird goes,
\nstepping across a carpet,
\na sea filling up with rain.<\/p>\n
Books are by my chair
\nready to be read,
\ntoys piled in his box.
\nI wait like an empty branch,
\nlike a roof waiting for sky,
\nlike a window needing a face.
\nIn a few days Jackie will return
\nrattling the gate,
\ngoing room to room,
\neverything being as it was.
\nAnd I will hold him,
\ntelling him he was missed,
\nthen put him down
\nto small boy things.
