I thought.<br \/>\nAs if she were a child.<br \/>\nJackie looked for her after school.<br \/>\nHe told me she was not there,<br \/>\nwhere we saw her.<br \/>\n\u201cKeep looking Jack.  We\u2019ll see her.\u201d I said.<\/p>\n<p>And I went out and looked.<br \/>\nShe was not there.<br \/>\nShe blended into this world so well,<br \/>\nI thought,<br \/>\namong begonia and ferns.<br \/>\nI\u2019ll look later.<br \/>\nMaybe somewhere else.<br \/>\nAnd then,<br \/>\nthis morning,<br \/>\nby the drive,<br \/>\nI saw a green twig.<br \/>\nA wing.<br \/>\nNo, I said.<br \/>\nNo.<\/p>\n<p>Then lifted her to my eyes.<br \/>\nI folded the errant wing against her.<br \/>\nI will put you in a box of crystal,<br \/>\nI murmured.<br \/>\nI will put you back,<br \/>\nto let the sun be on you.<br \/>\nTo tell the storm<br \/>\nI found you and we are undefeated.<br \/>\nThen I returned to the house,<br \/>\nholding her gently.<br \/>\nI had something to do,<br \/>\nfor me, for Michael, and Jack<br \/>\nand her.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rain, rain, inconsolable rain. \u201cWill the mantis be all right?\u201d asked Michael.
