This is an iron bird of paradise,
\na black wing reaching into the sky.
\nParis, a beach of white buildings.
\nAn ocean of poetry.
\nHow light the city becomes
\nlooking off to the blue island
\nof the horizon.<\/p>\n
I saw the tower reach out of the trees
\ncoming into the city.
\nThe watery silver of the air
\nlifting up the bones of a great edifice.
\nParis was given its Parthenon.
\nLife coming from the earth like a spine
\nin the cathedral of the heavens.
\nParis, given the arms of an eternal presence
