The ant looked at the great colossus
of the pyramid.
The astonishing height of a sun goddess
looking over the surface of a lunar desert.
But the ant paid no mind
to the wonder of its creation.
The hundred thousand lives
mortared between its seams.
The stone would do for the ant’s constructions.
Grain by grain
as time blows the pyramid away,
the ants will line up their labor
and grain by grain
take the pyramid into their tunnels
and roads,
until the desert is flat
and the sun goddess
turns her head to the Nile
and disappears into its arms,
loved into oblivion,
its soul covered by the ants.
