My Twin

We shared bottles
when we were three.
We shared a bed
until we outgrew our space.
Life never divided us
until school was done.
Until there was only one
chair available.
One place on a payroll.
One girl who would
answer to her name.
Time became a different
time on a calendar.
A bond separated,
no longer flesh and blood.
Ages become existential places.
Can I go with you now, my twin?
Would our mother know us now?

My voice no longer sounds like you.
Come see my place in the world.
Look as far as you can.
How much forgetting do you see?
Where are the mountains
we would travel to?
They’re gone.
One seed,
grew as two.
How many dimensions
live in a soul?
I picked up pieces of myself
along the way.
What am I now,
just pieces?
