I pray that God
not be lonely.
That I see the portrait
of a child,
in every aged face.
That nothing goes away
without its innocence.
I pray that God
doesn’t lose us.
That we understand
his silences.
That stars are meant
to see,
not to touch.
That God feels
the hunger of our hearts.
I pray that God
keeps us.
That what we say
is taken, every word.
That God needs us
as we need Him.
That tides go out
and return
which ever way,
the love in every prayer
is heard and saves us.
