Climbing up a sheer rock face
I’ve discovered there’s no way up,
and there’s no way down.
I am corralled by the invisible forces
of being alive,
without a step to stand on
or a place to put my fingers.
So when others ask an opinion of things
I say, no comment.
When they ask my religion
I say, no opinion.
Concerning politics I say,
I pray for deliverance.
The condition of the stock market?
I say, I hedge a lot.
And if a perceptive soul asks,
do you have a statement on anything?
I can truthfully tell them,
yes.
I have put myself
between a rock and a hard place.
