I want to be the flag
by Barrington School.
See sunrise peek on the horizon.
Wave to the teachers
and children in the morning.
Sleep snuggled to the mast at night.
Snap in the wind like a sail.
Go with the course of the wind
where the invisible is going.
Recite every word I hear
in the voices below me.
So every day
someone has a greeting,
listens to a poem.
Remembers how tall
and glorious the world is,
and sees something
like their soul,
on good days and bad,
strong and undefeated.
