Origami Birds

Origami birds,
swans of pink,
white gulls
and crisp wings.
Melissa folds sheets
into cranes,
fanciful larks,
birds of paradise.

Songs for the window
tethered by string,
gathered in flocks
from the ceiling,
suspended in the sun,
shadows lighting the wall,
moving
with the passing of our hands,
our entering.

To feel the sky inside us,
to open the cage,
to touch a rainbow
folded and creased,
flying from hands,
singing its song,
origami birds,
with celestial wings,
taking us into the sky.
