If I have five minutes for life,
I will live without memories.
I will be pure as light,
as clear as water,
full of sound,
blue as a shadow.
If I have time
to see a thousand days,
I will compose a poem
and thread beads around my heart,
find doors to places
that belong to themselves.
And if I live six decades,
I will build a house
and fill it with children,
and create a garden
where the light never leaves,
and the wind
creates songs,
gathered from the world.
The book The House of the World has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize and is now available on Amazon.
